Knabenkantorei Basel (The Basel Boys' Choir)
The Basel Boys’ Choir originated as the Boys’ Choir of the Protestant Reformed Church of Basel-Stadt, founded in 1927, and has since evolved into a non-denominational ensemble. The choir’s annual calendar is rich and varied, featuring a cappella performances, large-scale orchestral concerts, collaborations in opera productions at Theater Basel, and appearances at esteemed music festivals. Their repertoire spans from intricate a cappella pieces and grand oratorios to folk songs and popular melodies.
As a cultural ambassador, the Knabenkantorei embarks on concert tours across Europe and overseas each year. The choir has achieved significant recognition in international competitions, notably winning the title of European champions in the “Musica Sacra with Accompaniment” category in Norrköping, Sweden, in 2023, as well as the Grand Prix of Nations in the same category.
The singers receive comprehensive musical training, with individualized mentorship and support.
Since 2017, the KKB has been under the overall artistic direction of Oliver Rudin, who himself went through the KKB choir school and sang in the concert choir for more than 10 years.
